Dance Writing Programme – Call Out
Updated: Oct 2, 2020
This year, DanceLive 2020 will host a dance writing programme for writers interested in learning more about dance writing technique and working in the industry.
Participants will attend a writing workshop on Thursday 15th October led by dance writer Róisín O’Brien. This workshop will look at the specifics of writing about dance as opposed to other performing arts, and will include practical exercises for participants to explore new ways of writing.
Participants will be then be invited to respond to shows throughout the festival in reviews or more reflective formats: participants will receive feedback from Róisín and their responses will be published on the DanceLive section of the Citymoves websites. Participants can expect to write between 1-3 responses. Participants will also be able to request short 1-to-1 sessions with Róisín to discuss particular questions or projects they are working on.
Participants should be available on Thursday 15th October 10am – 1pm for the workshop: participants will also be provided with tickets to selected shows throughout the weekend up until Sunday 20th October, which they will be expected to attend and respond to, as decided in advance.
This programme is for those who already have a writing practice and would like to learn more about dance, or for those working within dance who would like to engage with movement through writing.
To apply, please send a short statement (max 200 words) to firstname.lastname@example.org detailing why you are interested in this opportunity and your previous experience of writing and/or dance, if applicable. Applicants may send up to 2 short writing samples if they wish, but this is not a prerequisite.
If you would like to send your application in another format (such as a short audio or video recording), please get in touch by emailing email@example.com. Please tell us about any access requirements you may have to support you in this project.
Submissions will be considered by the Citymoves DanceLive production team.
