Citymoves' Dance for Dementia Programme is delivered in local care homes, bringing the movement and dance sessions directly to people living with dementia, their families and carers. Classes are led by our highly trained Dance for Health tutors and musicians who provide live accompaniment.

Dance intervention is an excellent form of physical activity and a non-pharmacological method to provide effective management and treatment of dementia, while supporting communication, expression, coordination, creativity and social interaction.

We recently asked Arlene Adams, Care Home Assurance Nurse for Bon Accord Care, to speak about her residents' experience with our Dance for Dementia Programme and this is what she said: “I was invited to attend a session this afternoon and I was blown away watching how the service users sang, danced, and laughed throughout. Some of them had bowed heads however, the team from Citymoves, staff and myself included, danced individually with service users in their chairs. To see some of them lift their heads, make eye contact and sing was truly heart warming. I can only imagine this will be effective for days after”

Various grants kindly support Citymoves' existing Dance For Dementia classes, and we would be delighted to collaborate with you to submit funding applications to support bringing Dance for Dementia to your Care Homes. Please feel free to email us if you would like to discuss funding possibilities.

Additionally,  we also offer opportunities for care homes to self-fund the programme, with a variety of class blocks and pricing tiers to fit all budgets.

At Citymoves, we believe in the physical, mental, and emotional benefits Dance can have on a person's health and wellbeing, and we create all of our Dance for Health Programming with those benefits in mind.
