Creating Professional Opportunities

 

Citymoves is committed to fostering the talent of early career dance and third sector professionals through our Professional Pathways Programmes, which include internships, volunteer programmes, and networking opportunities.

​

As well as opportunities for Dance Artists to hone their craft and explore the art form, creating new works through Residencies, and offering a rotating schedule of free classes and workshops designed for dancers who want to develop technical skills and work in the guest tutor's unique style.

DanceLive Festival

Produced by Citymoves in Aberdeen, the annual four-day festival embraces a broad programme of professional dance and performance events by leading Scottish and UK artists. The festival includes professional performances in traditional theatre venues, site specific work, films, exhibitions, professional workshops and networking events. A festival that inspires, celebrates and champions innovative work.

Something Different

in collaboration with soundfestival,this two-day practical workshop focuses on collaborative creative practice. Led by a contemporary composer Bill Thompson and dance/choreographer Penny Chivas, the workshop is primarily oriented toward choreographers, dancers, composers, and musicians.

Over two days participants explore creative ways of working, collaborating, and performing in ad hoc groups and contexts.

Dance Commission

Citymoves is proud to create professional opportunities for dancers and choreographers in the Norht East by commissioning new dance works, and supporting them from inception through residencies, artist development opportunities, and eventually to their premiere at DanceLive Festival and beyond. 

 

Recent Dance Commissions include, Rob Heaslip's Black & Wood  (DanceLive 2023)  and Katie Armstrong's Glisk (DanceLive 2022)

Youth Dance Artist Programme

Our Horizons group hosts our Youth Dance Artists Programme, wherein young people who are interested in enhancing their teaching and choreographic skills, are offered training and opportunities to develop their leadership skills. ​

Citymoves' Youth Dance Artists programme is one of many pre-professional opportunities that work with our participants to strengthen Professional Pathways for Dance Artists in the North East of Scotland.

Early Career Internships

Citymoves works with local Universities to create opportunities for Undergraduate Students who are considering careers in the third-sector, focusing on office skills, development projects, and innovation within a charity context.

Residencies

Citymoves support in the creation and progression of artist’s work, by opening residency applications for creative and inspiring artists to apply to enhance Scotland’s dance sector by developing and sharing their practice within our studios. This can include studio space, advice & support and, from time to time, a financial stipend.

#LoveDanceScotland Consortium

An ongoing partnership with dance organisations from around Scotland that supports Dance Artists to develop their artistic work while forming a deeper connection with the partner organisations.  

​

This work is vital to expanding the innovative creative practice in Scotland, while also strengthening the wider ecology of Scotland's deance sector.

​

#LoveDanceScotland includes, Citymoves, Dance Base, Dance North, Dundee Rep & Scottish Dance Theatre, Tramway Glasgow, and The Work Room.

Professional Development

Citymoves works with local universities, training programmes, and outside dance organisations to create opportunities for continued education.

 

Recent trainings include: Dance for Dementia with Scottish Ballet, Dance United Practice in Social Inclusion, Strive:Safe Gaurding and working with at risk young people. 

 

As well as team continued education days such as:  Respecting Queer Identities, Turning Passions into Careers, and Professional Skills and Intern Success. â€‹

Professional Artist Support

Citymoves offers a variety of support to artists, from guiding artists to auditions, professional and workshop opportunities, to providing letters of support for upcoming funding applications, and supporting artists with studio space. We aim to collaborate with dance artists and nurture their creative processes by supporting their creativity.

Help us support the next generation of Dance and Third-Sector Professionals, by donating to support our Professional Pathways Programme.

 

We are looking for partners to fund Dance Artist Internships, Funding for the Development of New Work through our Residency Programme, and support for tutor training to allow us to upskill our team and continue our vital work using Dance as the agent for positive change in our communities.
