About the event
The Dance for Parkinson’s programme was first created by the Mark Morris Dance Group in New York and was devised by Programme Director David Leventhal. Dance for Parkinson’s was founded in 2001 and offered specialised dance classes to people with Parkinson’s, their families, friends and care partners, originally delivered in New York City and then rolled out to 100 communities in 20 countries around the world.
The Dance for Parkinson’s Scotland programme is a joint initiative between Dance Base, Scotland's National Centre for Dance and Scottish Ballet, Scotland's National Dance Company, and delivered in partnership with Parkinson's UK. Following a hugely successful pilot project managed and delivered by Dance Base and Scottish Ballet, the Dance for Parkinson’s Scotland programme has been expanded to ten areas; Peebles, Stirling, Perth, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, Greenock, Dundee, Inverness, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
